Suggested Exercise

Alright today I'm finally starting something I've been wanting to do for a while now. A weekly suggested exercise for the Sketch Daily Crew! I'm going to do my best to post a new exercise once a week. I want to emphasize that this is a "Suggested" exercise in case you can't think of what to draw or just want to try something new, but feel free to post any kind of sketches you like.

So here it is SketchDaily Exercise #1 Fan Art

A lot of time's I sit down to the drawing board and look at a blank page wondering what should I draw today. Many times if nothing comes I default to some sort of fan art. The thing that's cool about fan art is instead of trying to draw some boring still life or something you can actually practice your art on something that interests you.

Below are some examples of Fan Art I have done in the past.

Ideas for Fan Art

Some possible categories of subject matter you could draw if you can't think of anything. Favorite musicians (obviously one of my fav's) , Athletes, Characters from Movies, Video Games, Comic Books, Etc. Hopefully this gives you some good ideas to jump off on.

Sketch Daily is a group of people who are doing there best to keep drawing everyday even if it's just for 5 minutes. As a community we build each other up and enjoy creating art every day. Anyone and Everyone is welcome to contribute to this group.

To be a part of Sketch Daily all you have to do is connect online in whichever network you enjoy posting on. Right now there is 3 options. You can post on the Sketch Daily Facebook Page, or post your sketch on Google + or Twitter with the hashtag #SketchDaily . If your posting on Google + let me know and I will add you to my SketchDaily Circle. More networks may be added as we go.

Thank You to everyone who has been a part of this!!!

God Bless,
-Marshall aka Calmplex

In this episode I talk about exploring non traditional avenues for Illustration work. First I start off with some responses to feedback I got from Rob Stenzinger and Jose Gonzalez and then move into discussing the examples of people who inspire me to pursue alternative paths for making money with art. Namely the guys over at Art & Story.

After the initial framing I go into spitballing idea's for making money with with art. During this time I also share some of my struggles and successes Ive had while experimenting with some of these ideas so far. I also discuss the idea of finding a more efficient process to put out work more quickly.

In this episode i continue the discussion from last week meandering more into the realm of finding focus amidst all the voices. It takes some time for me to get to my points as run into a couple tangents but eventually i begin to center on how i'm clumsily tripping onto my voice as an artist. Some of the points i run through include exploring contrasting styles, zeroing in to my interests as an artist, and finding an efficient process for future professional work.
