In this episode I talk about my experience this past weekend attending ConnectiCON. It was interesting to attend a convention with comics that was more centered around the gaming and anime world than traditional American comics.

All in all it was a good weekend that I got to hang out with my friend Will and talk to some cool artists!

Thanks for the mention, Marshall. It was interesting to hear about the convention. That drawing on notepaper idea i stole from a favourite comic artist of mine Jim Rugg.

He work is very rendered and its cool to see it on that blue lined paper but i find it a great way way to rough out thumbnail ideas.

I have a couple pieces of advice as you look into doing conventions. 1) Always go into your first convention as a learning experience, and anything sold is just a bonus. Write down your sketch commissions, and keep tallies of what merch moves. This will prep you for the next con.
2) You'll always spend a little less at the next convention, because you need to buy less. After several cons, you'll have bins, banners, comics, prints, a lock box, etc, etc. Eventually all you'll be doing is printing new comics and new prints for future cons. It's really nice knowing you don't have to prep as hard as the previous con.

Once you do a table, and if you go with a good open mindset, you'll be hooked and jonsing to hit up another con as an artist. It's a real rush. It's also exhausting.
One last piece of advice is bring a good chair or cushion, sitting all day is going to destroy your rear if you get stuck sitting in some junk chair.

Jesse this is really good advice! Thank you! It lines up well with what I've been hearing from experienced tablers like yourself. I'm super excited to do my first convention and I expect I will get the conventioning fever like you described. I wonder how have you found out about conventions in your area? I've found it tough finding this info even on the web!

Fortunately for me I know the guy who puts on the local Comicon. But for other conventions in the area, the local comic shops usually are dialed in on that info. Cons try to hit up local comic shops to provide flyers.
I know a guy who runs Con News: http://con-news.com There's a lot of cons on that page all over.
